Video: METALLICA Bassist ROBERT TRUJILLO's MASS MENTAL Project Pays Tribute To BLACK SABBATH At 'Warwick Open Day'
September 11, 2014METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo resurrected his MASS MENTAL project for a couple of appearances in late August and early September. The first show took place on August 26 at the Whisky A Go-Go in West Hollywood, California and was followed by a performance at Warwick in Markneukirchen, Germany. The second concert was held this past Saturday, September 6 on the Framus & Warwick grounds, during the Warwick Open Day 2014, the crowning conclusion of the Bass Camp.
Fan-filmed video footage of MASS MENTAL's Warwick Open Day 2014 performance — including the band's BLACK SABBATH medley as the show finale — can be seen below.
MASS MENTAL was founded in 1998 by Trujillo, formerly of SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, along with SKINDRED singer Clive "Benji" Webbe, formerly of DUB WAR. In 1999, the band released "How To Write Love Songs", along with the live album "Live In Tokyo". Both CDs were made available exclusively in Japan. Shortly thereafter, MASS MENTAL broke up, allowing the bandmembers to return to their main projects. In 2002, MASS MENTAL reunited briefly with Roy Mayorga (STONE SOUR, SOULFLY) playing drums, although no new material resulted.
MASS MENTAL's lineup for the Whisky A Go-Go and Warwick Open Day 2014 shows was as follows:
* Benji Webbe (SKINDRED) - Lead Vocals
* Robert Trujillo (METALLICA, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES) - Bass
* Armand Sabal-Lecco (PAUL SIMON) - Bass
* Ken Schalk (CANDIRIA) - Drums
* Whitfield Crane (UGLY KID JOE, ANOTHER ANIMAL) - Lead Vocals (special guest)
